LIFESTYLE MEDICINE DEFINED

Lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the role that lifestyle and daily habits have on health and well being.  In our practice, we utilize an interdisciplinary approach to assess key markers of wellness, such as body composition, laboratory values, exercise capacity, strength and balance assessments, to provide objective measures of baseline wellness.  We then create an individualized care plan with intensive support to help you to achieve measurable results toward improving your health.

We use the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine to help prevent, treat and in some cases reverse chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and others.  We evaluate and treat our patients with a combination of  nutrition, exercise, non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapy.

We achieve this by focusing on the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine

  1. Proper nutrition focused on meeting the needs of each individual to achieve health-related goals

  2. Maintaining the proper amount and intensity of physical activity to improve or maintain aerobic fitness, build and maintain muscle mass and maximize balance and stability in all stages of life

  3. Achieving at least 7 hours of restorative sleep to allow the body to maintain and restore function

  4. Managing stress with healthy mechanisms to reduce long-term strain on health and wellness

  5. Avoiding or minimizing the use of potentially toxic substances such as alcohol, tobacco, food additives and others

  6. Developing and maintaining positive social connections to bolster emotional well being and happiness
